Child Visa


​The Child visas (Subclass 101 or 802) allows the child of an Australian Citizen, Permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to migrate to Australia permanently. It is important to note that the child must be younger than 25 when the visa application is lodged. The minimum requirements for this visa subclass are as follows:
Child Applicant

As the Child visa applicant, you must:
  • be the child of the Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • be single (not married, engaged or living in a de facto relationship)
  • be younger than 25 when the visa application is lodged
If you are aged between 18 to 24, you must either be a full-time student AND financially dependent upon your parent sponsor or have a disability that prevents you from working. 
Parent Sponsor

As the sponsoring parent, you must:
  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • be the biological parent of the child visa applicant. 
  • be older than 18 when the visa application is lodged. 
  • not have an outstanding charge or conviction of an offence against children. This requirement also applies to the spouse or de facto partner of the sponsoring parent.

Child Adoption Visa


Adoption Visa (Subclass 102) allows the adopted child of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to migrate to Australia permanently. Potential parents should first talk to local adoption expert because the legal requirements for child adoption vary greatly from country to country. The minimum requirements for this visa subclass are as follows:​
Adoptive Child Applicant

As the adoptive child applicant, you must:
  • be adopted by an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • be 18 years or younger.
  • be living outside of Australia. 
Adoptive Parent

As the adoptive parent, you must:
  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen at the time of the adoption. 
  • have lived in the adoptive child country for more than 12 months. 
  • have legally acquired full and permanent parental rights for the child.
