Parent Visa


The Parent visa (Subclass 103) and the Aged Parent visa (Subclass 804) allows the parents of Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to move permanently to Australia. The Parent and the Aged Parent visa application has a very low processing priority when compared with other family visa options. Department of Home Affairs has indicated that the current waiting time for the grant both these visa are approximately 30 years. The minimum requirements for this visa are as follows: ​
Parent

As the parent visa applicant, you must:
  • have a child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • have at least half of your children residing in Australia or more of your children resides in Australia than in any other single country.  
Australian Child

As the Australian child sponsor, you must:
  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • be settled here in Australia. 
  • be responsible for the financial and accommodation support for your parent for the first 2 years after their arrival in Australia. 

Contributory Parent Visa


The contributory parent visa has both a temporary and permanent version. ​​The Contributory Parent (temporary) visa (Subclass 173 and 884) allows the parents of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia for up to 2 years whereas the permanent version (subclass 143 and 864) allows for permanent settlement. All contributory parent visa applicant must pay contribution charges to the Australian Government which will speed up the visa process. The minimum requirements for these visas are as follows:
Parent

As the contributory parent visa applicant, you must:
  • have a child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • have at least half of your children residing in Australia or more of your children resides in Australia than in any other single country.
  • pay the "contributory" charge to the Australian Government.
  • be be at least 65 years old (only applies subclass 864 and 884).
Australian Child
As the Australian child sponsor, you must:
  • ​be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • be settled here in Australia. 
  • be at least 18 years old and willing to be the sponsor. 
  • be responsible for the financial and accommodation support for your parent for the first 2 years after their arrival in Australia. 

Sponsored Parent Visa (Temporary)


The sponsored parent (temporary) visa is designed to allow the parents of Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia temporarily for up to 10 years (cumulatively). The application cost of this visa is substantial but the relative quickness in the visa processing time may make it attractive for some. the minimum requirements for this visa are as follows:
Parent

As the sponsored parent visa applicant, you must:
  • be the biological, adoptive, step-parent or parent in law of your approved Family Sponsor.
  • have an intention of staying temporarily in Australia.
  • have sufficient funds for your stay in Australia.
  • meet the health and character requirements
  • have adequate health insurance whilst you are in Australia.
  • have no outstanding debt with the commonwealth. 
Australian Child

As an Australian child sponsor, you must:
  • ​be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen for at least 4 years.
  • only sponsor 2 parents at a time.
  • have a household annual income of $84,000, the sponsor income must be at least 50% of the household income.
  • not have any debt to the Australian Government.
  • meet all character requirements
